THE BALLAD OF #3

The great Sunday race of Daytona this year was the last for our dear friend,
When the day started out no one could know the tragedy the would befall him.
All of the drivers had gathered around to start the race off right.
It seemed at this time that fate would make right the plans that had been made last night.

The great Sunday race was about to begin, the drivers on needles and pins.
The engines they start with a deafening roar that seems like the start of a storm.
Through all of the curves they swerve and they turn till it seems that nothing will end.
With so many laps to make up the race they need to keep pace till then.

With so much at stake and just a small glance you feel like part of a dance.
As cars circle 'round in first and in last you know that this is your chance.
You let everyone see and let everyone know that you belong at the top.
You give them your all till the last lap is run and you know that you have to stop.

Many things happen in the midst of a race that no one can really believe.
But happen they do and when they occur you shake your head and just grieve.
So many sad things can happen to friends in only the blink of an eye.
In a moment it's gone, there's no turning back. You're racing in heaven on high.

In Remembrance Of Dale Earnhardt, 7 time Winston Cup Champ.
A poem to Dale Jr.

You must have faith that life goes on;
I'll be ok, but please be strong.
It breaks my heart to see you cry;
believe my spirit will not die.
I'll miss you all, you must know that:
but let me go, I can't look back.
The cars still race, the world still turns;
and my love for will always burn.
Memories are all you've left;
hold them close, or be bereft.
This day I know you'll not forget;
but I'll always have this one regret.
Not being able to say good-bye,
and to be here now, to watch you cry.
Racing always was my dream;
ironic now it must seem.
I died doing something I love;
now I must watch it from above.
But don't worry, you see;
the good Lord is here with me.
Keep me always in your heart;
stay together, don't fall apart.
So when the rises and I'm not by your side;
don't let me catch you with a tear in your eye.
I have to go, I'll see you later;
Signed with love,
The Intimidator

THE DAY RACING DIED

The thrill of the race, the roar of the crowd,
You're in the right place, mistakes not allowed.

To see Earnhardt race is a thrilling 'ol sight,
But on this dark day, He turned out the light.

As the cars came around that one fateful turn,
You hear only one sound, that loud crash and burn.

People are rushing to set drivers free,
But no one can help Dale & the 3.

A tragic event has taken a life,
Leaving behind his kids and a wife.

No one will know the greatness to come,
But as Dale would say "It sure has been fun!".

As he was carried away, if you'd imagine you'd see,
A car greeting him, a black #3.

The best that there was is now gone from the track,
And all of you know there's no turning back.

If it could be done I know what we'd want,
The black #3 with Earnhardt unhurt.

Racing just won't be the same without him,
We'll always remember that sly little grin.

He only was wanting to please family and fans,
And that's what he did, right to the end.

Now Dale is gone and it's a tragic loss,
But we all know he'll always be boss.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord.
